You will cover a broader range of complex accounting tasks. It includes maintaining cost accounting records, preparation of reports and returns. This AAT level 3 accounting qualification comprises the following six mandatory units:

What includes this course?

This level 3 AAT qualification will develop your knowledge and skills towards an advanced level. It will introduce complex concepts, and procedures, and theories. The course includes preparing accounts and creating financial statements; it has the following six units:

  1. Advanced Bookkeeping: You will use a sub-divided accounting to create trial balances and conduct reconciling. Alongside you will develop a valuation of inventory, preparation of accounts for irrecoverable debts. You will also understand how to dispose of non-current assets.
  2. Final Accounts Preparation: Here, you will learn to prepare accounts for a broad range of different businesses. This unit will help you make accurate accounting records of partnership. You will become confident in preparing final accounts even if the documents are not complete.
  3. Indirect Tax: You will gain knowledge of VAT legislation surrounding costs. It will help you learn the correct processes of preparing a VAT return.
  4. Management Accounting: You will demonstrate how to develop budget accounts for business costs like expenses, material, and labour. It will help you with the financial forecasting of a company considering the break-even and limiting factors.
  5. Ethics for Accountants: It will give you the knowledge of how to apply ethical guidelines and principles to accounting along with the legislation.
  6. Spreadsheets for Accounting: You will become capable of creating complex spreadsheets for accounting. Here you will learn a wide range of formula and formatting practices.

How much can I earn?

You can earn from £25,000 to £35,000 by performing through multiple accounting and finance job roles. However, it depends on nature and length of your experience.

What is the entry requirement?

This advanced-level course has some formal entry requirements. If you have not any experience in accounting, you need to gain the AAT level 2 qualification. Any other recognised finance or accounting qualification can also help. Good literacy standard in English and Maths is essential.

Alongside, you need to get registered for the AAT before starting this course. The AAT will provide you with an AAT student number which is to sit in exams and assessments.

What is the course duration?

The duration is six months if you can study 6-8 hours per week. Usually, its completion time is around 12 months.

AAT will examine your knowledge and skills through a blend of Unit and Synoptic Assessments. AAT will use the computer-based assessments (CBAs) method. CBAs are the most modern assessment method. It directly reflects the practical tasks you are currently performing or performing in the future workplace. You do not need to wait for weeks or months – CBAs give result at the spot.
